humanised technology.

LabNext70 is a dedicated team at the University of New England. We’re driving innovation by developing AI-driven solutions that enhance the learning experience for our students, assist academics, and empower our staff.

At UNE LabNext70, we’re setting a new benchmark for how universities can utilise AI technologies in a meaningful and ethical way. We call it ‘humanised technology’ because we’re empowering people to do more.

UNE LabNext70 is focussed on revolutionising the student experience

We believe learning should be dynamic, personal, and engaging. By providing educators and student support teams with advanced AI tools, we’re helping to make the classroom more responsive, the research process more intuitive, and the student experience more meaningful. It’s about making learning feel relevant and connected to the world students live in now.

Building AI literacy across UNE

AI isn’t just for tech experts. We’re committed to giving UNE’s staff the tools and understanding they need to feel confident in this evolving landscape. From finance to facilities, we’re making AI accessible and useful across the board. This is about creating a community that sees AI as a tool for solving problems and driving positive change.

Creating new products with purpose

We’re exploring how AI can bring fresh perspectives and innovative solutions into UNE’s offerings. By integrating AI into our design processes, we’re helping UNE develop new products and services that aren’t just “smart” but genuinely useful for today’s challenges. It’s a chance to rethink what’s possible and create tools that support a more adaptive, responsive university.

We’re a team of curious thinkers, problem-solvers, and doers, all working together to create a smarter, more thoughtful future for the UNE community.

  • Starting at UNE just got easier with our AI-Driven Student Readiness Assistant. This virtual assistant is designed to help prospective students assess if they’re ready to begin their studies with us. It answers questions about the skills, knowledge, and preparation needed to succeed at university, offering guidance and encouragement along the way. When students feel prepared, the AI can also provide step-by-step instructions on how to enroll. The Readiness Assistant is here to make sure students feel informed and confident as they take the next steps toward university life.

  • Our AI-powered policy bot is here to make navigating UNE’s policies simpler and faster. Using a large language model (LLM) combined with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), the bot can quickly search and reference UNE’s extensive policy library to provide accurate, up-to-date information in real time. Whether you’re a student, staff member, or faculty, the Policy Bot is designed to answer your questions and help you find the details you need, right when you need them.

  • Meet Lexi LawScribe, a specialised AI tutor designed to support LAW162 students in mastering legal writing. Built on the Cogniti AI platform, Lexi offers constructive feedback on key aspects of legal writing, including spelling, grammar, structure, punctuation, and citations following AGLC4 standards. Lexi doesn’t just correct errors; she guides students to think and write like a lawyer, helping them build the skills and confidence they need to excel in LAW162. This project is an excellent example of how AI can support academics and provide modern, practical tools that enhance the student experience. Lexi empowers students to refine their work and deepen their understanding of course requirements—without rewriting or completing assignments for them.

Now, more than ever, we need technology and innovation-thinking to be centered around people. How can we become happier, more engaged, more caring and generous? How do we ideate and make amazing products and services that will enhance humanity?
